Ariva & Stonewall BDL

In late 2008, Star Tobacco developed a new methodology for growing and curing ultra-low nitrosamine tobacco (US Patent pending), and has prepared a new version of its existing pre-2007 Ariva® and Stonewall® dissolvable smokeless tobacco products. These new products, Ariva BDL™ and Stonewall BDL™, have ultra-low levels of tobacco specific nitrosamines, very low levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and controlled levels of nicotine compared to conventional popular smokeless tobacco products. The “BDL” in the brand names refers to the fact that the TSNA levels in Ariva and Stonewall BDL™ were virtually below detection limits in independent standard test measures that were conducted.  We applied to the FDA in 2010 for approval to market these new products as “modified risk tobacco products” under the 2009 Tobacco Control Act. In March 2011 the Center for Tobacco products notified us that these two products currently are not subject to regulation under the Tobacco Control Act. This decision clears the way for the company to move forward with the marketing and distribution of Ariva and Stonewall BDL™.
