Sara Troy Machir is Vice President for Communications and Investor Relations with Star Scientific, Inc. Ms. Machir joined the company in December 2000, after serving as a consultant to Star on external communications. She served as the company’s Communications Director from 2001 to 2003.  Ms. Machir, as a member of a small management group in which all wear several hats, has been involved in product testing as well as managing the communications, investor relations and government relations functions of the company.

Prior to joining Star, Ms. Machir consulted, primarily in association with Alexander and Associates, Washington, DC., on strategic management issues for a variety of Fortune 500 companies. She is a graduate of Georgetown University, Washington, DC, with a degree in Languages and International Business.

Ms. Machir has been a member of the board of trustees of Children’s Hospital in Washington, DC since 1986, and served a chair of that board from 2001-2004. She retired from the Medical Center Board as of January 1, 2009, after 22 years of service.  She also chaired the Steering Committee of the Counseling Center at St. Columba, Washington DC, and currently serves on the board of trustees of the Ivymount School and the Campaign Council of the CNMC Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders.
